We’ve become accustomed to there being a new phone launch almost every other week, but it feels like that’s been the case with Motorola handsets alone in recent phones.
The Lenovo-owned brand’s lineup is more confusing than ever, and on first impressions, it’s difficult to see where the upcoming G9 Plus fits in.
It appears to be the more premium alternative to the recently released G9 Play, despite plenty of G8 phones launching in recent months.
Here’s everything you need to know, primarily courtesy of Orange in Slovakia.
Moto G9 Plus release date
This leak came out of the blue somewhat, and the sheer number of Motorola phones released in the last 12 months makes release dates incredibly difficult to predict.
The fact that Orange Slovakia had this information ready to go suggests an imminent launch though, and with phones usually releasing within a couple of weeks of unveiling we’d expect the phone to be available before the end of September 2020.
Moto G9 Plus price
The Orange listing appears to give away European pricing, suggesting the G9 Plus will cost €255 (approx £230/US$300).
That’s roughly in line with 2019’s G8 Plus, which cost £239.99 at launch. With the recently released G9 Play coming in at £159, it leaves a gap for the regular G9 to fill at some point.
Should this pricing end up being true, the G9 Plus will be comfortably under the £250 mark and so eligible for our best budget phone chart. The addition of a 128GB storage doesn’t seem to have led to a price increase.
Moto G9 Plus specs
Every now and again, a trustworthy source mistakenly sets information live ahead of the official announcement.
Orange in Slovakia is the guilty party this time, with the product listing remaining live for hours before being taken down. Roland Quant at WinFuture appears to have been the first to discover the leak, which confirms almost everything about the phone:

Key specs are as follows:
6.81in, 2400×1080 LCD display
Quadruple rear cameras (including 64Mp main sensor)
Punch-hole selfie camera (top left of screen)
128GB storage (expandable via microSD)
The big thing this leak is missing is which processor the G9 Plus will use. Last year’s G8 Plus came with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 665, and we’d expect something from the 6-Series once again. Despite the news that Qualcomm will now offer 5G on its 4-Series and above, the G9 Plus does not have 5G support.
As was alluded to above, Motorola also recently released the G9 Play, a more affordable version of the Plus with the same 5000mAh battery.
