Can You Cancel Sky Following April Price Increases?


Sky is increasing the price for some of its services from 1 April 2021. Here’s what will be changing and by how much.

The increases in price are coming to standard packages for TV, phone and broadband across the UK. Sky says that the increased costs are a reflection of the improvements in Sky Q content and features, new deals such as Discover+ free for one year on Sky Q, upcoming originals coming to Sky this year, the introduction of FTTP broadband and more.

Sky states that the average monthly bill can increase by just over £3 per month – though the majority of customers will likely be paying less. 

Which Sky services are increasing in price?

These price changes will be coming into effect from 1 April.

Sky Signature will increase by £1 to £26
Multiscreen will increase by £1 to £15
Sky HD will increase by £1 to £7
Sky Ultimate (Netflix add on) will increase by £1 to £5
BT Sport will increase by £2 to £27
Sky Broadband Essential will increase by £3 to £25
Sky Broadband Superfast will increase by £1 to £28
Sky Talk Anytime Extra and Talk International Extra will increase by £2 p/m from 1 May. Talk Evening and Weekends Extra is unchanged

Services that won’t be increasing this time around are Sky Cinema, Sky Kids and in contract Sky Sports. Sky mobile customers will also not be affected. 

By now you should have been contacted by Sky if your prices are changing. If you haven’t and aren’t sure, get in contact with Sky to double check. Some customers on special promo contracts may not receive a price increase. 

Can you cancel your Sky package without a penalty?

If you’re not happy with these price increases then you may be able to leave your contract with Sky without a penalty. Purchasing a package from Now may provide you with your favourite TV at a cheaper price, but do make sure you’ve found a better deal before you leave your current provider.

If you’re outside of your minimum contract term for your packages, you will be able to leave without penalty at any time – you can contact Sky to start the cancellation process but you will need to give a certain amount of notice before you leave.

If you are affected by the Sky Broadband or Sky Telephone changes and you are still inside the minimum term, you can cancel your contract without paying an early cancellation charge. Once you receive official confirmation from Sky about the price increases to your policy (which you should have seen between 17 February and 27 March) you can call and cancel your contract within 30 days of your notification.

If you’re within your minimum term for a Sky TV contract, sadly you won’t be able to cancel it without a penalty. You may be able to haggle with sky directly if you contact them but that is usually on a case-by-case basis.
